There’s a quiet shift happening in nonprofit leadership sentiment.
Concern about politics rose this year, and I’ve been in this sector long enough to know that’s not normal.
The Urban Institute just published their findings on what nonprofit leaders were most concerned about heading into 2025.
Finances top the list at 49%. Expected, and something we are actively working to help with at Impala.
But what troubles me most is that concern about the political and social environment rose year over year. It now sits just behind workforce concerns.
Nonprofits are, in principle, color blind. They exist to serve communities. Their need does not change based on who occupies the White House.
As an immigrant, I still find it remarkable how large and sophisticated the US nonprofit sector is. It has grown across administrations, across cycles, across deep political shifts.
We should not accept a model where the sector thrives or limps depending on election outcomes.
