Sanders Marshall Memorial Christian Clinic
Sanders Marshall Memorial Christian Clinic (SMMCC):H2L started the construction of the Sanders Marshall Memorial Christian Clinic (SMMCC) in early 2012 in the village of Hastings, which is east of the capital of Freetown in Sierra Leone. The clinic will serve over 15,000 people in the village of Hastings and the surrounding areas, and people from as far as 20 miles away are accessing its services. Construction was completed in September 2013, and the clinic opened its doors for primary care, urgent care, lab, and pharmacy services on September 25, 2013. The clinic has been seeing up to 20 patients per day for issues such as malaria, typhoid, dehydration, malnutrition, and other general primary care issues, and this daily volume is expected to double with the opening of the maternity section full-time. The government of Sierra Leone requested that we expand the lab services in September 2013 in order to become a regional HIV/AIDS testing and counseling center for clinics in the region. In addition, they asked our ministry partner to provide overnight sleeping quarters for clinicians tending to women in labor and patients requiring overnight care. Funds were raised in December 2013 for the expansion, and the construction was completed in March 2014. The maternity/labor & delivery services started in early March 2014, and 24 hour services started at the end of March 2014. Funds were also contributed for the digging of a fresh water well on the clinic property, and the digging commenced by hand in late 2013 with completion expected in April 2014. The well will provide clean water to the clinic, as well as the surrounding villages.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2014 – Dec 31, 2014Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$38.2KSupport for Needy Primary School Students
Needy Students at Primary School:Our ministry partner operates a primary school in his first church for over 300 K 5th grade students. The enrollment at the school in August 2013 grew substantially, and over 50 new students did not have the means to purchase pencils and paper. H2L provided the funds to purchase supplies for the year for these students so they would not be left behind during the school year. Sierra Leone does not have a government-sponsored education system, and all schooling is private (fee based) for those families that can pay the funds. Our ministry partner offers reduced fees and also scholarships (i.e. no fees charged) to many students since the primary school is in one of the poorest sections of East Freetown (Calabatown). Most families sacrifice tremendously to be able to afford the school fees and one uniform, thus supplies are not affordable for many.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2014 – Dec 31, 2014Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$8K
