Program 1 [2020]
Advocacy: In 2020, MCV worked with state lawmakers to advance environmental policy goals and through the Maine Climate Council to create the state's new Climate Action Plan. Despite the pandemic, the year-long Climate Council process moved forward remotely. Throughout the process, MCV played a critical role in advocating for strong recommendations that put Maine on track to reduce its carbon emissions by 80% and use 100% renewable energy all by 2050 while building a clean energy economy that is accessible to all Maine people.Continued on Schedule OMaine's Environmental Scorecard: Since 1986, MCV's annual Environmental Scorecard has provided Maine people with factual information about the most important environmental legislation considered in Maine's State House. Our Scorecard has become the standard bearer to determine the environmental record of all members of the Maine State Legislature. We score the votes on the most important issues of the year, including energy, climate change, clean water, public health, and land conservation. In 2020, we distributed the Environmental Scorecard in an online format.Climate Action Campaign Maine: For seven years, a coalition of environmental organizations including Maine Conservation Voters has partnered to protect Maine's health and economy from attacks on lifesaving public health and environmental protections. In 2020, we engaged a variety of stakeholders, including local business leaders, health professionals, sportsmen, and local elected officials to speak out against the attacks on the federal policies and programs that protect our air, environment and health. Central to this work was mobilizing key constituencies, implementing earned media and digital campaigns, and organizing high-impact events. Educating the public: MCV launched a weekly webinar style Lunch and Learn program at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. At the outset, our goals for the program were to provide education opportunities for our network of allies and supporters, build affinity and stay connected, and to amplify the work being done by experts. Through this program, more than 2,000 Maine people joined us at more than 20 webinars. In addition to deep dives into a variety of topics, we've used these webinars to elevate the work of the Maine Climate Council and encourage participants to take action.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$875.8KClimate and Environmental Advocacy
Climate and Environmental Advocacy: In 2022, MCV worked with state lawmakers, allies, and community leaders to advance state and federal environmental policy goals and implement the state's Climate Action Plan. Grounded in science and community and developed through a collaborative, whole-of-government process, Maine Won't Wait positions our state as a climate action leader. At the two-year mark, Maine had already made significant strides, and a recent report shows that the State's goals of reducing carbon pollution by 80% and using 100% renewable energy by 2050 are now well within reach. To name some of the progress: Maine buildings are transitioning to cleaner heating and cooling systems; there is a new fleet of electric buses; and more carbon capturing forests have been permanently protected through the Land for Maine's Future program. Our primary strategies for advocacy work in 2022 included mobilizing key constituencies, implementing earned media and digital campaigns, and organizing high-impact events. Holding Maine's elected officials accountable: Since 1986, MCV's annual Environmental Scorecard has provided Maine people with factual information about the most important environmental legislation considered in Maine's State House. Our Scorecard has become the standard bearer to determine the environmental record of all members of the Maine State Legislature. We score the votes on the most important issues of the year, including energy, climate change, clean water, public health, and land conservation. In 2022, we distributed the Environmental Scorecard in both a print and online format.Educating the public: Our virtual Lunch & Learn series is grounded in our commitment to continuous learning as the foundation for meaningful civic engagement and transformational change. In 2022, our weekly Lunch & Learns featured engaging conversations on a wide range of topics, from environmental and climate priorities to innovative technologies and intersectional movements for change. Democracy for All: The health of Maine's environment and our communities and the health of our democracy are inextricably linked. Those most impacted by the climate crisis are also facing the greatest barriers to voting. Achieving meaningful progress on climate change will be more difficult without an equitable democracy that works for everyone. In 2022, our Democracy for All campaign worked for increased access to the ballot and expanded voting rights for all communities through the implementation of Automatic Voter Registration and Online Voter Registration.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.5MProgram 1 [2025]
