IMAGING GRANTS FOR EXPERIMENTS TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL BIOMAKERS OF MYELIN REPAIR TO MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS - MRF HAS DEVELOPED AND FUNDED 5 EXPERIMENTS.DETAILS OF THE EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: - DETERMINE IF T1R CAN DISTINGUISH INJURED MYELIN FROM HEALTHY MYELIN IN THE BRAIN;- LOOK FOR DIFFERENT PATTERN OF METABOLITES IN DEMYELINATING BRAIN VS. REMYELINATING;- DETERMINE IF RETINAL IMAGING CAN MEASURE INJURY AND REPAIR IN CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM;-DETERMINE IF A CLINICAL TRIAL FRIENDLY VERSION OF MTR CAN ASSESS REPAIR OF MS LESIONS;-DETERMINE IF MWI CAN BE A GOOD MARKER OF ROBUST MYELIN REPAIRMRF HAS ALSO COLLABORATED WITH BIOGEN INC., THE LEADER IN IMMUNE SUPPRESSIVE THERAPIES FOR MS.THE GOALS OF THE EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED ARE: 1. DETERMINE IF ANY OF THESE PILOT EXPERIMENTS INDICATE IF THEY COULD LEAD TO A BIOMARKER OF MYELIN REPAIR; 2. WORK WITH EXPERTS TO IDENTIFY ADDITIONAL POSSIBLE IMAGING STRATEGIES THAT COULD BE EVALUATED EXPERIMENTALLY FOR THEIR POTENTIAL TO BE USED AS A BIOMARKER.BIOFLUID GRANTS FOR EXPERIMENTS TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL BIOMARKERS OF MYELIN REPAIR IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS - MRF HAS DEVELOPED AND FUNDED 2 EXPERIMENTS.DETAILS OF THE EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:- LOOK FOR DIFFERENCES IN CEREBRAL SPINAL FLUID (CSF) FROM MS PATIENTS BETWEEN GOOD AND BAD REPAIRERS;- LOOK FOR MOLECULAR BASIS IN CSF AND BLOOD FROM MS PATIENTS FOR THE INHIBITION OF REMYELINATION WHICH COULD BE A BIOMARKER.THE GOALS OF THE EXPERIMENTS CONDUCTED ARE: 1. DETERMINE IF ANY OF THESE PILOT EXPERIMENTS INDICATE IF THEY COULD LEAD TO A BIOMARKER OF MYELIN REPAIR; 2. WORK WITH EXPERTS TO IDENTIFY ADDITIONAL POSSIBLE IMAGING STRATEGIES THAT COULD BE EVALUATED EXPERIMENTALLY FOR THEIR POTENTIAL TO BE USED AS A BIOMARKER.INTERNATIONAL PORTFOLIO OF EXPERIMENTS -MRF HAS PROVIDED GRANTS TO THE FOLLOWING DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN ORGANIZATIONS:DOMESTIC GRANTS: STANFORD UNIVERSITY AND OREGON HEALTH & SCIENCE UNIVERSITYFOREIGN GRANTS: CANADA - MCGILL UNIVERSITY, SWEDEN- KAROLINASKA INSTITUTE, SWITZERLAND- UNIVERSITY OF ZURICHTO REVIEW THE MOST RECENT SCIENTIFIC WORK AND MEET WITH LEADING SCIENTISTS, AND ATTENDED THE FOUR MAJOR WORLDWIDE CONFERENCES THAT ADDRESS MS AND MYELIN REPAIR- ECTRIMS ( EUROPEAN COMMITTEE FOR TREATMENT AND RESEARCH IN MS) IN PARIS, FRANCE-ACTRIMS ( AMERICAN COMMITTEE FOR TREATMENT AND RESEARCH IN MS ) IN SAN DIEGO, CA-AAN ( AMERICAN ACADEMY OF NEUROLOGY) IN LOS ANGELES CA-EAN ( EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF NEUROLOGY) IN LISBON, PORTUGALTHE GOALS OF PROVIDING GRANTS ARE- 1. BUILD AWARENESS AMONG THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY OF OUR MISSION; 2. STIMULATE NEW IDEAS TO EXPLORE TO UNCOVER MYELIN REPAIR BIOMARKERS; 3. We only have one area of program services and that is scientific research to benefit Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients. Currently our research is focused on experiments to identify biomarkers to indicate repair of myelin damaged by MS. Over the last year, we focused our research on extracellular vesicles(EVs) isolated from blood. We currently have 12 investigations underway spread across Europe and North America.
