This is a grant program offered by the NBEDC to promote entrepreneurship, grow local wealth, and strengthen community bonds. Through this program, entrepreneurs have an opportunity to apply for a kick-starter grant up to $10,000. The Requirements: 1) Be a for-profit entity; 2) Be based within New Bedford and have a valid New Bedford Business Certificate; and 3) Be in business for no more than 24 months. Grant awardees need to match a minimum of 50% of the $10,000 maximum grant award in equity. This is our small business assistance program that provides resources for businesses to get through the challenges of the next phase of pandemic recovery, while looking toward investing in, and preparing for, greater future success. The NBEDC will be offering grants of up to $20,000 in conjunction with matching financing and other technical assistance (business planning, resource guidance, best practices, etc.). Grant funds shall be matched with a NBEDC loan with deferred payments for three months. Wicked Cool Places a project-based grant program for making or keeping a place where things are happening and people want to be that involve and impact residents, visitors and/or businesses in New Bedford’s neighborhoods. The requirements: 1) be based in New Bedford, MA; 2) be a project that falls under Placemaking or Placekeeping as defined as follows: Placekeeping: “The active care and maintenance of a place and its social fabric by the people who live and work there.
