American Conservation Film Festival
The American Conservation Film Festival (ACFF) offered both virtual screenings and in-person screenings for the spring 2022 festival. Our online catalog of 22 films streamed internationally, online for free for 5 days and was entirely closed-captioned for accessibility. The films were accompanied by four recorded discussions with filmmakers and conservationists. ACFF hosted an in-person, free festival watch party screening three films in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. ACFF also hosted a big screen event with five films at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, MD. The screenings in Frederick included a filmmaker meet and greet, filmmaker-audience Q&As, as well as a lobby filled with partner organizations and activities like a bug petting zoo and sustainable coffee. The youth screenings were open-captioned and a live ASL interpreter signed the entire film onstage. Special outreach to the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities in Frederick and DC were made prior to the open-captioned film. A total of six awards with cash prizes were given to filmmakers. The organization held an in-person, free Pollinator Evening at Shepherd University with Doug Tallamy and a special showing of My Garden of a Thousand Bees sponsored by HHMI Tangled Bank Studio which was live-streamed on PBS Nature. The registrations for 400 put the venue at capacity. The event was presented in partnership with the Garden Stewards/Shepherdstown Public Library and the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. In partnership with the Potomac Mecklenburg Garden Club, ACFF held an additional screening in-person of My Garden of a Thousand Bees at the Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education. ACFF held an in- person, free Best of Fest Event at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia with a filmmaker Q&A. ACFF staff worked with the Environmental Studies Department of Shenandoah University to allow students to review festival films. In advance of the 2023 Festival, the organization received and curated 292 film submissions from 45 countries.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$64K
