New York City Public School for Dance
The New York City Public School for Dance (NYCPSD) is a partnership between Ballet Tech and the NYC Department of Education (DOE) to provide enrolled 4th – 8th grade students with a robust academic education alongside intensive dance training, all under one roof. The DOE provides academic faculty, support staff, and the core academic curriculum aligning with New York State standards for learning; Ballet Tech provides quality dance training, dancewear, and transportation. Teaching artists from Ballet Tech travel to public elementary schools across NYC to engage 2nd and 3rd graders in a 40 – 50-minute dance class that introduces them to the basic tenets of ballet, as well as the various styles of dance offered at Ballet Tech. These tuition-free dance enrichment classes are intended for students of all abilities and are customizable to fit the needs and schedules of participating partner schools. Twice per year, Ballet Tech holds a 6-week Introduction to Ballet program at its studios at 890 Broadway. Selected 3rd graders, identified via the Ballet Tech Across New York program, are bused by the NYC Department of Education from their local elementary schools to Ballet Tech once per week for a 75-minute beginner ballet class.
