Program 1 [2018]
Court Consultations: Inside New York Citys five Family Courthouses, LIFT responds to litigants needs for more intensive legal services. We provide in-depth Court Consultations that enable unrepresented litigants to meet privately with a Staff Attorney and receive legal advice and vital support in preparing a case. We make this service available to those who are proceeding in child support, custody and visitation cases. Each Consultation usually takes between 45 minutes and one hour. When LIFT added legal advice to our service portfolio in November 2017, we began providing our Court Consultation clients with a substantially deeper level of legal services that empowers them to achieve their legal goals. Our Court-based staff provided 1,045 participants with Consultations in FY18.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesOct 1, 2017 – Sep 30, 2018Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$724.4KProgram 2 [2018]
Family Law Information Helplines: Anyone with a New York Family Law matter may access LIFTs services through our Telephone, Email and Live-Chat Helplines. Importantly, every EI Site participant is referred to the Helplines, which are tremendously valuable resources for obtaining answers to follow-up questions, additional information, referrals and more. Bilingual (Spanish/English) Helpline Associates provide information regarding family law as well as referrals to community-based legal and social services. In FY18, our Helplines served 14,379 people.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesOct 1, 2017 – Sep 30, 2018Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$331.7KProgram 3 [2018]
Know-Your-Rights Workshops and Community Outreach:LIFT receives numerous requests to present legal education workshops and clinics at local organizations where family law issues are beyond the scope of their services. Accordingly, LIFT has expanded our legal education program, through which we served more than 300 participants in FY18. Our workshops and clinics are tailored to each audience and community to ensure that we successfully address the questions and concerns of participants, many of whom are proceeding without legal representation in Family Court. In FY18, we began offering a legal clinic -- including brief, one-on-one appointments with a Staff Attorney -- as an alternative to the standard presentation and Q&A. The approach is possible because of the addition of legal advice.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesOct 1, 2017 – Sep 30, 2018Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$247.3K
