Program 1 [2018]
1) The Post Baccalaureate Program, funded by the NYS Department of Health and housed at Buffalo University SUNY School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences prepares college graduates for entrance into medical school and increases their chances for successful completion at the medical school they become enrolled in. This program targets underrepresented, and educationally/economically disadvantaged students who have applied to a medical school in NYS, but have failed to meet all admissions requirements at the school in which they apply i.e. low MCAT scores, science-GPAs, and other criteria. Students are referred directly to the AMSNY post baccalaureate program by the medical school. During the one-year program, students receive individualized course work, mentoring and additional academic and interpersonal preparation. Students are guaranteed admission into the referring medical school if they pass all program requirements, including grades of B+ in each class and re-taking of the MCAT if needed. This program was created in 1991 and enrolls an average of 25 students per year. Through three of its member medical schools, AMSNY also supports a Post Baccalaureate, Masters Degree track for students that are underrepresented in medicine, educationally or economically disadvantaged. Students are referred to the program through the medical school admissions process at each of the participating medical schools. The three participating medical schools have individualized programs with an emphasis on microbiology, physiology or biophysics. After successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Masters Degree and are guaranteed admission to the referring medical school.2) The Diversity in Medicine Scholarship helps students from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine by eliminating the financial barrier to enrollment. Launched in 2017, the scholarships are available to students who have completed one of the AMSNY Diversity in Medicine post-baccalaureate programs. In return, scholarship recipients commit to practicing medicine for at least two years in an underserved area in New York State. 3) AMSNY works with its member institutions, other partners and New York State to advance biomedical research at the state and federal levels. Through its outreach efforts, AMSNY supports the recruitment and retention of medical school research faculty, investment in laboratories, stem cell science and the full continuum of biomedical research from basic discoveries to clinical and translational research.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2017 – Jun 30, 2018Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$2.5M
