The Greenway was among the first organically maintained urban parks in the United States. The Conservancy manages The Greenway to the highest standards of ecological excellence, offering a toxin-free environment with healthy lawns and plants that require less water, fertilizer, and amendments. Our sustainable landscape program focuses on organic soil management, plant health resilience, air and water quality, and resource conservation to mitigate the impacts of climate change and the urban heat island, and to reduce our carbon footprint.GeographiesAtlantic Ave, Boston, MA 02109, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedEnvironment,Parks,Playgrounds,Community beautificationAdults,Children and youth––Maintenance
The Greenway is located atop a highway with varying tunnel depths that affect selection, installation, and maintenance of all hardscape and landscape material. Conservancy staff are familiar with the complexities of the park and have extensive knowledge to be able to maintain The Greenway to the highest standards. Our Maintenance team cares for six fountains, acres of granite paving, complex lighting systems, and more, and supports infrastructure for programs and public art. This team also oversees our contracted basic maintenance including lawn mowing, litter and trash removal, and snow removal.GeographiesAtlantic Ave, Boston, MA 02109, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedEnvironmentAdults,Children and youth––Greenway Park Rangers
Greenway Park Rangers is a critical public safety program managed by the Conservancy. Year-round, Rangers patrol The Greenway, Monday-Friday, during peak hours and special events. Rangers provide ambassadorial services to the general public and connect people experiencing homelessness and addiction with human service agencies that specialize in long-term aid and recovery. The presence of Rangers ensures a safe space for all visitors.GeographiesAtlantic Ave, Boston, MA 02109, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedBasic and emergency aid,Special population supportHomeless people,Persons with substance use disorder(s)100–
