Adaptive Sports Programs
Adaptive Sports Programs: Bridge II Sports (BIIS) provided approximately 405 total program hours of adaptive sports to include, individual, team, and competition sport opportunities. This impacted 2,342 individuals in 2021 through weekly adapted sports programs and events that served people with multiple types of physical disabilities. Family members and caregivers are also impacted by the improved changes of confidence, independence, strength, and mental health that happens with their loved ones. BIIS uses a minimal factor of 3, making the greater individual impact over 7,000 additional people impacted. BIIS did host in-person adapted sports programs and events during the pandemic in smaller numbers with a strong COVID protocol. Also, BIIS hosted monthly Virtual programs using Fitbit and Virtual meetings for those who were not local and more comfortable with no contact. These opportunities supported people with disabilities engaged and provided encouragement during local, state, and federal imposed limitations on in-person gatherings. BIIS, through the committed efforts of staff, volunteers, and athletes, has experienced NO COVID outbreaks over the last two years of offering in-person adapted sport programs and events. The in-person adapted sports programs offerings in 2021 are air rifle, archery, boccia, cycling, goal ball, golf, and wheelchair basketball. BIIS also provides one-on-one sports consultations to newly injured or people with disabilities who are new to adapted sports. Twenty-four (24) unique athletes and family members had private consultations of two to three hours, for a total of more than 50 hours of time. BIIS highly qualified and trained staff take time to teach which adapted sports are possible for the person living with disability and provide the adapted sports equipment for the individual to experience adapted sports. The time cultivates hope so that the person with disabilities and family can learn the various adapted sports possibilities available to live healthy, engaged, and active lifestyles. BIIS implemented Valor Games SE in four smaller events, honoring the demanded smaller groups. MetLife, Cisco, Domtar, and RTI International continue to be major sponsors as well as other sponsors. The BIIS Veteran Fitness Challenge to engage Veterans and Members of the Armed Forces in active and healthy lifestyles continues with great success with an 82% monthly engagement level. Volunteers are key to maintain the mission and work at BIIS running efficiently. Total volunteer hours BIIS received in 2021 was 3,652 hours.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$465.2KCommunity Education Events
