Berlin Airlift Historical Program
The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation continues to have one Program Service. As stated in the Foundation's Articles of Incorporation, the Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory and alliance of the men and women of the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany who conducted the greatest humanitarian operation in aviation history, and thereby sustained the besieged city of Berlin from June 1948 to May 1949. The Foundation continues to accomplish this Program Service by displaying a Douglas C-54 transport aircraft named the "Spirit of Freedom" as a museum/exhibit for the purpose of history, education, and remembrance. This reporting period accomplished many improvements to the onboard exhibits. Work continues to improve the airworthiness on the replacement C-54D since our original C-54E was destroyed by a tornado on April 13, 2020. The most important mission this reporting period was a flight to Utah to honor the Berlin Candy Bomber, Gail S. Halverson. Gail passed away on February 16, 2022 at the age of 101. The mission was flown in May and June 2022 with the replacement C-54D. This reporting period also included the purchase of C-97 parts to help get our Boeing C-97G airworthy. Our Boeing C-97G, the world's only remaining flyable C-97G, remains parked at the Reading Airport in Pennsylvania needing an engine and an inspection. Efforts continue to make arrangements to transport the C-97 parts from Greybull, Wyoming to New Jersey and Pennsylvania.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesNov 1, 2021 – Oct 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$152.8K
