The Campaign for Housing Justice program's goal in 2024 is to move 80 Guests from the Shelter to their own homes. Founded more than 40 years ago as a means to overcome the economic barriers to becoming housed, the CHJ recognizes that often the final hurdle before receiving keys is the security deposit for an apartment. When the security deposit is as much – or more – than the first month’s rent, prospective tenants find themselves without the means to cover these costs and are often forced to make the decision to remain homeless. For qualifying Guests, the CHG makes security deposit payments directly to landlords, ensuring that these newly housed individuals are on a well-planned path to secure and affordable housing.GeographiesHudson County, NJ, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedHousing for the homelessEconomically disadvantaged people80$129.1KPermanent Supportive Housing Project
Through partnerships with affordable housing programs and government project-based vouchers (PBV) for rental subsidies, Shelter Residents are provided with their own apartment. They receive clinical supervision from the Shelter’s Case Management Team, including: --Independent Living Skills Training: development of a self-directed plan for work, education, medical, recreation, or social needs. -- Information and Referral: contact information for transportation, health care, mental health, and day care resources available to disabled individuals to implement their independent living plan. --Peer Support: Offer support network to individuals with a disability where they can share their concerns and learn about solutions. --Family & Community Education: educate family members who provide support for the individual with a disability so they are informed and involved. --Advocacy: Advocate for disabled individuals if they have been mistreated or discriminated against.GeographiesHudson County, NJ, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedHousing for the homelessEconomically disadvantaged people200$45.4K
