Metuchen Board of Education - "Moss Fit & Fun Playscapes"Moss School, A learning pathway featuring stencils of activities (hopping, balancing, ABC, hopscotch, animals/nature etc.) was painted on paths at Moss School. The stencils are reusable and can be re-painted in the future if necessary and/or used at other schools. These stencils add physical activity and skills that reinforce those taught in physical education class, and fun activities for recess. These stencils will be used by all students at Moss School throughout the school year, the summer programs, and also by community members who use Moss School playground. They were mounted on the wall and connected to a laptop, to allow for interactive audio-visual experience to facilitate fan participation. This equipment will also provide hands-on experience to those students interested in technology careers. The topics ranged from literature, science, math, sports, entertainment and other activities such as hula hoops and dancing. All of the students were given a chance to participate, in person and remotely. This path is open to all grade levels, with each station marked with QR codes. On each sign, one QR code designates a first/second grade activity and another QR code provides information for a third/fourth grade activity. All innovative activities in the 5 stations in the Math Path are aligned with the New Jersey Learning Standards. The following domains are included: Measurement, Geometry, Data Collection and Fractions/Number Sense. Station ideas may be changed over time based on students' interests and learning needs.
