Historic Doctors Office Education Program
Through interpretation and preservation of the old pathology building it stands intact with much of its original furnishings and equipment the historic doctors office presents the complete contents of a general family practitioner that provides a tangible experience of medicine circa 1950. The Voices of Central State project aims to share the history of Central State Hospital through archival materials from the collection online exhibits academic articles about the history of the hospital timelines and maps. Also to provide a space for people whose histories arent represented in those materials to share their own memories stories experiences photographs and other materials and to use their own words to tell their story. We currently dont know the full extent of our archival collection precisely but we estimate that the collection contains approximately 5,500 documents that are a wealth of knowledge. When this archival project is completed these materials will be much more useful for our internal research publications and exhibits.
