See Schedule OEDUCATIONILI strives to not only improve the high school graduation rates for Latino students but works to expand the population of Latino college graduates in Indiana by helping Latino students to navigate the enrollment process and by being a resource for helping these students to graduate from college. Offered Education programming includes the following initiatives:1. College Access College Preparation Workshops & Presentations: The Indiana Latino Institute presents information to students and parents about topics related to college preparation such as: college readiness, scholarships, financial aid, workforce development, and community service. College Coaching: The Indiana Latino Institute works with students to assess student and family needs, address barriers when applying for college. Indiana Latino Education Summit: The organization provides information to students about how to successfully prepare for and complete the college access component of the college process. A College and Career fair is provided for attendees. 2. College Success College Coaching: The Indiana Latino Institute works with students to assess student and family needs, address barriers, and identify and focus on strengths. ILI helps students navigate college processes, financial aid, career exploration, and provides referrals to general social service agencies for other needs. Scholarships: The organization awards need and merit-based scholarships to students who show academic excellence and community service involvement. Preference is given to applicants who are Latino first-generation college students. Leader Scholarships: After completing the summer internship program or fellowship program, select students are eligible to intern at the Indiana Latino Institute office, providing support to all programming and staff. Scholarships are provided upon completion of service hours. 3. Workforce Development First Year Employment Exploration Program: The Indiana Latino Institute secures community partners to host incoming college freshmen over the summer. The program includes real world experience as well as assistance from ILI staff who guide Internship Program: The organization secures community partners to host interns over the summer. The internship includes real world experience as well as assistance from ILI staff who guide students to develop their resume and conduct career research projects. ILI provides interns with a scholarship upon completion of the internship. Internship through Partnership: Partnerships with existing internship programs are available through partners such as Eli Lilly, Sherwin Williams, Allison Transmission, Carrier UTC and Indiana INTERNnet and are established to provide workforce development opportunities for students. The Indiana Latino Institute places students in these programs that are run by outside entities. Fellowship Program: The Indiana Latino Institute secures corporate partners to host up to 5 fellows who are college seniors or graduate students. The fellowship includes real world experience as well as character and leadership development trainings. Fellows are paid directly for their time.4. System Change The Indiana Latino Institute works to inform community leaders, elected officials, education professionals, and community organizations about the challenges and opportunities that exist for college bound Latino Hoosiers. The organization also creates movements and informs the public about initiatives at the grassroots level. Indiana Latino Higher Education Consortium: The organization works with college/university leaders to influence system change to increase Latino enrollment, retention, and completion rates in higher education institutions.HEALTHILI is committed to improving the health of Latinos through reducing health disparities among Latinos throughout the state of Indiana. Health-focused programming includes, but is not limited to, the following:Decrease Youth Tobacco Use Rates Point-of-SaleILI conducts youth and adult-focused education on how tobacco products are priced and marketed to target teens and the impact of tobacco promotion at the point-of-sale. In addition, ILI participates in the Standardized Tobacco Assessment for Retail Settings (STARS) survey to college county-level data on tobacco products and point-of-sale advertising in retail establishments.Increase the Proportion of Hoosiers not exposed to Secondhand SmokeTobacco-Free WorksitesILI works and advocates for the proportion of local and/or statewide comprehensive smoke-free air ordinances for worksites.Tobacco-Free Schools ILI works and advocates for the proportion of school districts with comprehensive tobacco-free campuses.Multi-Unit HousingILI works and advocates for the proportion of comprehensive smoke-free policies in multi-unit housing, including public housing and market rate multi-resident buildings.Decrease Adult Smoking Rates QuitlineILI conducts outreach with healthcare providers, organizations, and employers to increase the utilization of the Indiana Tobacco Quitline throughout the community.EmployersILI works and advocates for tobacco cessation benefits provided by employers and tobacco-free grounds policies. Maintain a State and Local Infrastructure Necessary to Lower Tobacco Use Rates CoalitionILI participates in the Smoke Free Indy coalition and conducts ongoing coalition development and recruitment activities.Priority PopulationsILI conducts outreach to organizations that work with priority groups and fill coalition gaps and to work on tobacco control activities. ILI also works with Head Start Centers to implement a tobacco-free training curriculum. Indiana Latino Leadership Circle ProgramThe purpose of The Leadership Circle is to identify and mentor emerging Latino leaders by connecting them with respected, influential community leaders and strategic empowerment opportunities. The Leadership Circle is a two year-long commitment that incorporates a multi-pronged approach to bringing young, emerging Latinos front and center, both within the Latino community as well as within the larger community. Through individualized mentoring, networking and leadership development opportunities and think tank sessions based on issues of importance, these talented emerging leaders will have a unique opportunity to learn from established Latino and non-Latino members as well as gain valuable skills that will focus on their own empowerment.Our vision is to increase the pool of Latino leaders within Indiana to further the development of communities throughout the state. LEADERSHIPILI's leadership development programming focuses on identifying, supporting, and connecting Latino Hoosier leaders through widespread recognition and by facilitating access and to high-level individuals and spaces.The ILI's Leadership Circle is an annual, year-long commitment that incorporates a multi-pronged approach to bringing young, emerging Latinos front and center, both within the Latino community as well as within the larger community. Through individualized mentoring, networking and leadership development opportunities and think tank sessions based on issues of importance, these talented young leaders will have a unique opportunity to learn from established Latino community members as well as gain valuable skills that will focus on their own empowerment. The Leadership Circle is committed to identifying, mentoring, and connecting young, emerging Latino leaders, ideally aged 40 and under, to ensure that the growing community has ready and willing leaders who are prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.Each year, a small group of exemplary emerging Indiana Latinos will participate in this bold new initiative. Those selected will be invited into this exclusive Leadership development series and will make a year-long commitment to fulfilling all requirements of this coveted personal and professional development opportunity through the following paths:1.
