    (1) Literacy developed by NBCDI in 2017, The Read to Succeed program is designed to promote early literacy and language development, support black child development by assuring that the children read stories where they see themselves and read stories that affirms who they are or who they can be. Children of color need culturally affirming, responsive, and reflective and phenotypically accurate learning materials that promote positive self-perception and foster a true sense of belonging and engagement in their learning and care environments. To facilitate the literacy experience, we held several activities, the last of which we featured books written by black authors from within the Philadelphia area.
