creARTe: After 10+ years, Tieton's summer Art in the Park program has grown up! We have expanded it to offer high quality, co-curricular programming for K-12 kids in the Upper Yakima Valley all year long. The program is now called creARTe, a portmanteau of create+art, that works in both Spanish and in English. We are partnering with the Highland School District to create experiences that complement school lessons in both content and approach. Nearly all of our after school, summer, and weekend programming for creARTe happens at our new permanent home, at 807 Tieton Ave.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$37KDia de los Muertos Celebration
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a vibrant community celebration honoring both los muertos and beauty of life. Day of the Dead celebrations began in Central America, and have roots in indigenous and Catholic traditions. Sweet sugar skulls, bright colors, and bitter-smelling cempazuchitl (calendula, or marigold) flowers evoke vibrant, ephemeral life and bitter, inevitible death; embracing both. Each year Tieton Arts & Humanities creates on huge community altar and we invite everyone to add to it. 1000+ visitors bring photos of loved ones, write messages, and bring mementos, candies, or foods. This provides a unique opportunity to remember the special people in our lives that are no longer with us. The day of celebration features arts and crafts activities, a sand painting by Seattle-based Oaxacan artist Fulgencio Lazo, sugar skull decorating and more! The gallery exhibition runs for five weeks afterward. Admission is always free and everyone is welcome.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$14.2K
