Animal Grantmakers Annual Conference
Annual Conference: In October 2022, Animal Grantmakers hosted its 23rd annual conference, with more than 80 people participating. The conference was co-hosted by Farmed Animal Funders, another nonprofit funder affinity group (and member of Animal Grantmakers). The event kicked off with half-day field trips to a marine mammal center and three facilities for companion animals, then featured a range of discussions over the next two days, from animal sentience and the effects of COVID-19 on animal shelters to legal developments affecting animals and diversity, equity, and inclusion (or lack thereof) in the animal welfare field. It wrapped up with a final field trip to Eat Just, one of the premier alternative protein companies in the world. Nearly half of the conference speakers were people of color, reflecting participants' strong interest in hearing from a more diverse array of perspectives and experiences. The event also attracted a record number of financial sponsors, including full participation by board members' organizations. An article about the conference was featured in "Animal Philanthropy," an online collection of stories for philanthropists.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$153.9KMember Engagement and Resource Sharing
Other programming for members: Animal Grantmakers held a virtual "Member Meet-Up" in early May to help members get to know each other in a fun, interactive format. We also held two events in a new, virtual roundtable series for members to share their work with each other. The first of those, also in May, was a roundtable with GRACE Communications Foundation and Kirkpatrick Foundation on farm animal production. The second, in June, was a roundtable with Spring Point Partners on proximate leaders in animal welfare, which teed up a workshop at the 2022 conference on how funders can identify and support proximate leaders. Each of these three events drew 15-20 people. Animal Grantmakers also shared webinars, articles of interest, documentary films, and other content with members on our listserv and website and posted regularly on our social media channels. We updated our website to reflect our 2022-2026 values, vision, mission, and goals. We also responded to members' miscellaneous requests for information or assistance throughout the year.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$30.9K
