THE ARTS HOURS WAS DESIGNED TO USE BOTH REMOTE AND LIVE ARTS TEACHING AS PART OF THE NORMAL SCHOOL DAY. THE FINAL PERMUTATION FOR THIS YEARS PROJECT - A COMBINATION OF AN IMMERSIVE STUDY OF MOZARTS MAGIC FLUTE THROUGH WEEKLY SCENE BY SCENE VIEWINGS OF THE VIDEOED METROPOLITAN OPERA JULIE TAYMORE PRODUCTION, FOLLOWED BY AN IN-DEPTH EXAMINATION OF THAT SCENE THROUGH SOPHISTICATED, HANDS-ON VISUAL ARTS AND LANGUAGE ARTS WORK THAT TOOK PLACE BOTH LIVE IN THE CLASSROOM WITH AN EXTRAORDINARY GROUP OF MULTI-HYPHENATE ARTISTS, AS WELL AS IN THE CLASSROOM VIA REMOTE INSTRUCTION ON ZOOM, WHEN APPROPRIATE. ADDITIONAL CULTURAL FIELD TRIPS ROUNDED OUT THE CHILDRENS ARTS YEAR INCLUDING A VISIT TO THE GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM FOR THE NICK CAVE EXHIBITION, FACILITATED BY BOARD MEMBER, LENA STRINGARI, CHIEF CONSERVATOR OF THE MUSEUM. EACH CHILD HAD A SKETCHBOOK AND PENCILS. THE CLASS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY TEACHING ARTISTS, PARENTS, VOLUNTEERS FROM THE ART WORLD & CLASS TEACHERS.
