Homeownership Support Services
Homeownership SF provides housing information, resources and referrals for affordable rental housing, first time homebuyers, and current homeowners in San Francisco. With support and coordination from Homeownership SF, our member housing counseling agencies collectively provided 64 first time homebuyer workshops in San Francisco, which were attended by 2,912 individuals. Additionally, we connected interested homebuyers with 56 City Homeownership Orientations for First Time Buyers, which were attended by 4,250 individuals. Homeownership SF fielded thousands of client inquiries, and referred households needing financial education to our member housing counseling agencies. In total, 3,681 individuals received financial education at 105 Financial Services workshops on topics such as budgeting and credit building. We also assisted 359 current homeowners, that attended 10 workshops for low to moderate income home owners. Home owner workshop topics included home maintenance and repair, property taxes, homeowners association (HOA) basics, and other topics relevant to the households who have purchased homes utilizing our City programs. We also connected 57 homeowners experiencing financial hardship to foreclosure prevention support at our member housing counseling agencies. Homeownership SF supported rental housing services, coordinating with 12 different partnering agencies to promote 119 different drop in housing clinics for San Francisco residents to receive application assistance to submit for an affordable rental unit. These clinics were attended by 700 individuals and 5,789 rental applications were submitted in total. Additionally, 2,260 individuals received individual rental counseling and support with affordable rental programs. Homeownership San Francisco (HSF, or DBA Home SF) is a coalition of experienced, nonprofit housing agencies advancing housing equity and asset building opportunities for low-to-moderate income renters, homebuyers and homeowners. Home SF serves as a centralized resource hub, connecting underserved communities with financial education, housing services, and affordable housing opportunities in San Francisco. Founded in 2009, in response to the foreclosure crisis and the need for additional homeowner retention resources HSF has evolved to become San Francisco's lead agency for connecting San Francisco low and moderate income households with homebuyer education and counseling, post-purchase education, foreclosure prevention counseling and rental housing counseling services.Home SF partners with the Mayors Office of Housing and Community Development and the 5 HUD approved housing counseling agencies in San Francisco to offer the required homebuyer education and counseling certification for City homebuyer assistance programs. As a coordinating body, Home SF provides a platform for housing counselors to share their knowledge and experience, develop best practices, and access training opportunities. Home SF provides ongoing public outreach, content development, language support, and technical assistance. For San Francisco residents, Home SF's website serves as a one stop resource for affordable housing information, and features a calendar of Citywide workshops facilitated by Home SF member agencies and other housing service providers and provides referrals and information. Home SF has proudly hosted the San Francisco Housing Expo, the Bay Areas largest annual affordable housing resource fair and help center, a showcase of the Citys available programs and services for renters, homebuyers and current homeowners. We understand that affordable homeownership is vital to ensuring diverse, mixed-income communities and a high quality of life. Mobilizing a diverse coalition of service providers, Home SF helps to increase access to affordable homeownership opportunities, leverage the capacity nonprofit agencies, provide opportunities for training and skill sharing, and coordinate services. Home SF provides a centralized affordable housing information hub, and helps to insure uniform services and resource connections, so that low- and moderate-income people see homeownership in San Francisco as a viable option. During the fiscal year, Home SF coordinated workshops, presented by HUD approved housing counselors and other industry professionals, including: 58 San Francisco Homebuyer Program Orientations which were attended by more than 3,500 individuals, 69 HUD Approved First Time Homebuyer Workshops, attended by over 2,000 low to moderate income home buyers, 32 Financial Education Workshops, attended by over 500 individuals, 11 Post Purchase workshops, attended by approximately 300 new home owners, and 12 Rental Housing workshops and dozens of drop-in rental housing clinics, providing application assistance and education to hundreds of vulnerable community members seeking lower income housing opportunities.
