Virtual Engagement for Teens
The Covid-19 Pandemic proved to be especially challenging for Teen Center USA. In an abundance of caution, we made the difficult decision to close our doors for in person gatherings. We did, however, offer opportunities for our teens to benefit from our program in other ways. We immediately launched a Virtual Drop-in Center via the online platform Discord which was available for over 400 of our registered students to log-in and engage with each other, and our staff Site Mentors in and play online games with each other in monitored and safe environment while we sheltered in place. We also hosted drive-thru activity bag giveaways throughout the year which allowed us to hand out bags full of goodies such as snacks, puzzle books and activities aimed to reduced anxiety, and act as an alternative to screens. In the spring, we held "in-person social distancing" learning labs in which we could safely accommodate up to 15 students per day to work and attend their virtual classes while still engaging in some social interaction with peers while remaining safely distanced.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.1K
