Dance and Movement Therapy Programs
Since the creation of SDP, weve provided weekly movement classes at the San Francisco County Jail, Menlo Park Veterans Affairs Hospital, Options Recovery Services in Berkeley, Institute for Health & Healing at the California Pacific Medical Center, and several high schools. Weve added classes for healthcare professionals at UCSF and other healthcare organizations. We have offered a yearly training at the Center for Somatic Psychotherapy for somatic interns and did it online in 2022.We had our 8th outreach facilitator training in August 2022 to train additional people who can offer this work to a broader range of underserved populations. We were happy to be able to offer this training in person. We have made connections with different organizations such as the California Arts in Corrections, William James Foundation, UCSF Palliative care, Catholic Charities, and the Family Care Alliance. In 2022, we are slowly coming out of the lingering effects of Covid-19. We continued to create online and have added in-person programs. We created new class series on Zoom, working with indigenous traditions and movement. We renewed our contract with Newbridge Services to offer movement classes to the elderly across the country in New Jersey. With in-person workshops continuing to emerge, we were able to offer our work in Arizona and New York and continue our classes at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. We have started a new class with the Catholic Charities offering dance to women with severe trauma in a transitional living community house.SDP has touched the lives of thousands of people through dance and movement witnessing people transform physically and emotionally, improve their self-esteem, and express a desire to make positive changes in their lives. SDP implements programs that use dance, music, martial arts exercises, and visualization as a way to awaken one's aliveness and spirit. Our classes offer a bodily sense of freedom and help participants cultivate an internal sense of empowerment. Classes focus on moving with and through challenges that block us from living a full and joyful life. SDP is managed and staffed by Executive Director Sylvie Minot, as well as about ten volunteers, teachers, and contracted staff who are responsible for fundraising, marketing, and assisting in the outreach classes. Currently, Sylvie Minot manages the teaching staff, implements all projects, and is accountable for the associated outcomes. The board of directors consists of seven individuals with diverse backgrounds who support our bookkeeping, marketing, event production, and administration.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$94K
