Program 1 [2020]
We stayed open throughout 2020,throughout Covid and were considered as essential. The numbers of people increased dramatically of those needing food. During Covid, food distribution became our main focus. We adjusted to meet safety standards; social distancing, masks, gloves, hand sanitizing, but continued with our weekly and bi-weekly distributions. We also were blessed with more and new opportunities to receive more food to meet the demand. There were weeks where we were serving almost 500 families every Friday. As well as 200 every second and fourth Saturday. We had to close our clothing closet for a couple of months during the peak Covid months, due to it being a small space and inside, but were able to bring clothing racks outside during our food distribution hours to meet emergency needs. We re-opened all of our programs when we were told we could, and began running everything as before (clothing closet, new family provisions such as furniture, household items, clothing and food)Our Agency had a new family day, where families can receive furniture, household (kitchen, bed and bath items clothing and food ) resumed as well when we were told it safe to do so. We lowered the amount of families we can serve from fifteen per week to six every Wednesday, and adjusted when we were told it was safe to do so, back to ten families per week. Our community family days started back slowly after re-opening, seeing only fifty people on Saturdays instead of its usual two hundred, but once people began to feel safe being out, we got back up to 200 families visiting us on Saturdays. We had our annual Valentines Party for the community serving approximately 150 families. We had our backpack event in August, providing 90 students with backpacks. We had our annual Harvest Festival in October serving approximately sixty children in 2020.We received new toys donations from numerous churches, businesses and individuals, and held our annual Christmas Bazaar. We were open two days in December serving over two hundred families, totalling over 1200 toys. The Christmas Bazaar is open for parents to shop for their children. We offer two toys per child to the parents who come.We have been blessed to have many volunteers and a lot of support during Covid. We see approximately 100 volunteers per week at Bridge of Hope.During Covid, we had a couple volunteers who are musicians, who began to come and play music for the community during food distribution every Friday, which made a huge impact on those waiting in line for food. They brought a lot of light and joy during such a difficult time.We had our annual scholarship award for graduating seniors from the City Heights area. The students have to apply and submit their GPA, a referral letter from a teacher, coach or counselor, and an essay describing their hopes, dreams and self experience overcoming obstacles and challenges. We had nine winners in 2020. We had 5 first place winners, and 4 second place winners. The first place winners received $1000.00, a $220.00 Amazon gift card, Laptop computer, and computer case. Second place winners won $500.00, $150.00 Amazon gift card, Laptop computer and computer case. We had a celebration for the community at the award event where we had the students share and we honored them and their families with a party/celebration.We also suffered a tragic loss of a dear friend, local pastor and volunteer of Bridge, who served with us for ten years. He passed away in January 2020, from Covid. We were able to have a memorial service for his family and the community, outside and approximately two hundred families came from the community.Bottom line of the year of 2020 is that we stayed open, continued to work, serving the community in every way we saw was essential. We were blessed with more donations of food, basic necessities and financial support in order to meet the needs of families throughout San Diego.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$259.9KProgram 2 [2020]

Bridge of Hope 2023Bridge of Hope San Diego is located in the heart of City Heights which is one of the largest refugee resettlement areas in the country. We serve hundreds of families each week that are coming to us for food, clothing, furniture and household items. We have a large pool of committed volunteers who serve with us- weekly, some monthly and some come for the different special events we put on each year. Everyday at Bridge of Hope is different: Tuesdays we have ten to twelve volunteers who are committed to receiving donations, organizing donations, reloading our pantry, shelves and racks to be able to serve those families coming to us for services.Wednesday is our new family day where individuals and families are referred to us by different case workers working directly with individuals and families. On a Wednesday we have about 12-15 volunteers who are ready to greet those who have made an appointment to come and pick out a couple pieces of furniture, items from our kitchen and bedding department as well as a visit to our clothing closet and food pantry. These families are all facing some kind of transition- transitioning out of homelessness, domestic violence, recovery, those dealing with a disability, veterans, refugees and immigrants, natural disaster victims or any type of crisis. This is a one time scheduled appointment. We serve up to ten families each Wednesday.Every Friday we have a large scale food distribution where we serve between 225-280 families. This is a farmers market style distribution. We provide a large variety of fresh produce, dry goods, meat, dairy, bread and pastry items. We receive anywhere from 10,000 - 14,000 pounds of food from Feeding San Diego, San Diego Food Bank, Costco, Walmart, Target, Trader Joes and Smart and Final.. All are welcome. We use an intake service called Oasis. Each client fills out a simple application and receives a card to bring each week. This card has a color on it which indicates the time they can come in order to avoid long lines and disputes in the lines. Oasis also helps us keep count of families served each month. We have approximately 25volunteers each Friday. Every second and fourth Saturday morning is our Community Day. We open our clothing closet to those needing clothes, and we provide a food distribution. We served on average, about 100 families twice a month. This is a day where families can come and enjoy participating in arts and crafts, games and hear about any upcoming events that Bridge of Hope will be hosting as well as sharing other resources available in the community. We have about 30-40 volunteers eachCommunity Day.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$982K
