Support for Orphans in India
India According to UNICEF, there are more than 31 million orphans in India. Orphans and vulnerable children in this country are often kidnapped and sold into prostitution, slavery or murdered for organ harvesting. Impoverished children are also at risk of malnutrition and diseases like leprosy and HIV/AIDS. Little girls are especially in danger in India. 50,000 female fetuses are aborted every month, while thousands of others are killed or abandoned at birth. The Sound of Hope financially supported one children's home in this country during 2022 - a total of 17 kids have been rescued. These children come from the streets, slums, brothels and leper colonies. Once safely in our homes, these little boys and girls are quickly accepted into their new family. In addition to meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, and a safe home; they receive an education, mentoring and medical care. In cooperation with our native partners, the Sound of Hope works to equip these children to break out of the cycle of poverty and rise above their circumstances.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$5KCare for Children in Burma and Thailand
Burma and Thailand Burma, located in SE Asia between India and China, is home to the longest running war in the world. Since the early 1960's, the Burmese military-run government has been committing genocide against the ethnic minorities living within it's own country. Although these ethnic minorities are legal citizens of Burma, the military junta burns down their villages, rapes their women and kidnaps their boys - forcing them to fight as child soldiers. We support two homes in this country. The Promised Land in Maesariang, Thailand and The Refuge in the Thai/ Burma border town of Mae Sot, Thailand. In The Refuge, we care for kids who come straight out of the violence in Burma. We're most proud of the self-sustainability model our partners have been able to implement here. They raise ducks, turkeys, hogs, and crops on a small plot of land. This bounty reduces monthly food costs, and proceeds from the sale of crops and livestock creates a revenue stream for the home. Our greatest success is that the kids are doing great, and advancing in their studies in a safe and loving environment. Thailand is home to a multi-BILLION dollar sex-industry. One Thailand agency reports that 40% of sex-trafficking victims are children. In response to this tragic dilemma, The Sound of Hope bought and established a girl's home in Masariang, Thailand. Our second Thailand home - The Promised Land - was purchased in 2011. After many months of renovations and preparations, our native Thai partners welcomed in 8 young girls in 2013 who were rescued out of impoverished situations from the surrounding mountain villages. It's girls just like these who are at the greatest risk to be kidnapped and forced to work in the sex-industry. We currently have 5 girls living in the home. In 2022 two of our girls graduated from a local university with degrees in Nursing. We raised the funding needed to pay their tuition and other university fees. So while there are only 5 girls in the home now - 2 of our former girls are now working as nurses in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In both homes, The Sound of Hope funding covers medical needs, school fees, and technology to assist with education.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$29.9K
