  • Educational Grocery Hub

    We ran a nonprofit, volunteer-operated educational grocery hub that served tens of thousands of patrons with affordable, sustainably-sourced, ethically-traded staple foods and groceries in the San Francisco Bay Area's poorest community. We worked to bring in vendors and farmers who otherwise lack access to the normative food system, with specific focuses on local vendors, new vendors, and worker-owned small businesses.

  • Volunteer Project Coordination

    Our elected volunteer Board provides deep project coordination and mentorship to the volunteer students who're interested in participating and designing community projects with the Food Collective. Each volunteer committee, any of which our 125 regular members are required to serve on, meets twice a month and designs educational curricula, manages our communications, plans member and community events, and selects which foods should be offered at the Collective, among other assorted activities.

    We hosted six sets of student volunteer-designed and facilitated workshops on food systems issues, including on how to have 1-on-1 conversations, how to do food ecosystem mapping, and current dilemmas in food safety.
