Camp Discover
Camp Discover-We offer a fun educational experience for families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to experience all of the communication opportunities available to Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. Classes are offered in ASL Cued Language and Listening and Spoken English for all levels to learn about or practice their skills. There are many opportunities for families to meet Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults to learn about their experiences and ask questions about what their children may experience through their lives. We also offer many fun camp activities to engage Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in new experiences new vocabulary and confidence building activities to help with self-advocacy. This year we had 115 people attend including staff mentors and interpreters with 38 kids and 22 adults attending classes. Annual conference: We offered our annual conference in 2024 but it had to be cancelled because of weather. This conference is free to families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The theme was Language Acquisition from birth to age 21 with a teen Deaf and Hard of Hearing panel and a parent panel. We had 119 people registered. GBYS Program: Our chapter has a Guide By Your Side Program that supports families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing on an individual level with Parent Guides matched up with a particular family. We also offer Deaf and Hard of Hearing Guides to share their experiences with the families.
