Mission Statement

The Gutierrez Memorial Fund was established in the spring of 2010 to honor the life of artist, visionary, and community leader, John K. Gutierrez. The original objective was a personal one- the creation of the John K. Gutierrez Memorial Fireplace. On October 23, 2010, family and friends held the first Gutierrez Memorial Walk to raise funds for the construction. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the fireplace was completed and installed at Clipper Mill on February 25, 2011. Inspired by this success and the communitys enthusiasm, the Memorial Walk became an annual tradition, and the Gutierrez Memorial Fund was formally established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The Gutierrez Memorial Fund is committed to supporting the arts in Maryland by partnering with and providing grants to dedicated arts programs, individual artists, and educators whose work focuses on artisan training, community engagement, and transforming the built environment.
