Ali's Place (24/7 Drop-In Center)
Named in honor of Ali Forney, Ali’s Place is the nation’s first and only 24/7 Drop-In Center for LGBTQ+ youth. We believe that LGBTQ+ youth need and deserve a welcoming and safe space, and Ali’s Place provides that. Centrally located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, it’s the first point of contact for LGBTQ+ youth coming off the streets, where they can create community with peers and access support services and programs. Here, our youth are able to immediately access basic needs, including meals, showers, clothing, and hygiene supplies, alongside crisis intake, and safety planning. On average, we provide more than 70,000 meals every year, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks throughout the day. Youth can also access case management and mental health support, and receive individualized service plans to link them to our housing, health services, and education/workforce development programs.Geographies307 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedBasic and emergency aid,LGBT CentersYoung adults,LGBTQ people––Emergency Housing
While AFC’s continuum of services is provided at Ali’s Place, it’s also enmeshed throughout our 14 housing sites across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Together, our housing sites encompass a combined total of 162 beds for the youth in our care. Our housing sites are homes, with shared living rooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces – they are staffed 24/7 with individuals who affirm and care for our youth, offering safe and secure places for unhoused LGBTQ+ youth to lay their heads and begin to stabilize from the trauma of homelessness. These homes are a critical support because, for many of the youth who reside here, this housing is often their first bed since being forced out of their homes. Our Emergency housing sites are used to help youth stabilize and find safety again. Here, our dedicated staff help youth focus on stabilization by managing cooking and household chores. Additionally, staff manage mental health counseling, case management, and support our youth during this time in their life.Geographies307 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedSupportive housingYoung adults,LGBTQ people,At-risk youth––Transitional Housing

Our Transitional housing sites are two year programs where true work toward self-sufficiency takes root. Youth work with our staff to develop long term goals for themselves to design what independent life might look like. Youth are expected to continue their education, engage in internships, or sustain employment during their two-year stay. Similar to Emergency housing, this housing is also staffed 24/7 with support in place for mental health counseling and case management, but designed to build a defined pathway toward independent living.Geographies307 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedSupportive housingYoung adults,LGBTQ people,At-risk youth––
