Programs
Program 1 [2020]
Tenant Partnerships and Solidarity- For 36 years, Peaslee has maintained and grown a collective, accessible space for people to gather and work for positive change across our neighborhoods, city, region and nation. In addition to Peaslee's programs and community projects, six other non profit partners housed in the Peaslee building engage in work focused on education, advocacy and organizing to build a more just world. Together we work in solidarity to extend our impact in the community.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$83.5KProgram 2 [2020]
Education Based Organizing- Education and Organizing projects include coalition work with other social justice oriented organizations and aims to strengthen partnerships and resources for improving the public policies and practices of our city. In 2020, Peaslee led a coalition to develop a website and public presence for the Communities Act Now (CAN) action platform. CAN provides a critical road map to improve development practices in Cincinnati by addressing our city's well-documented equity problems. It consists of four impactful and actionable public policy initiatives, included our own Equitable Development Rubric. Public support for and use of the Equitible Development Rubric has grown with residents, councils, and organizations. Our ongoing education and support has evolved to include a Community Council guidebook and toolkit for the Rubric that will soon be available for neighborhood groups. In November, Peaslee and other partners in the Keep Our Courts coalition hosted a trick-or-treat walk through the space at Main and Schiller to further engage residents in imagining how this public land could be developed in a way that is responsive to community needs.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$46.7KProgram 3 [2020]
Covid 19 Emergency Response- Device Lending & Community Food Programs: Device Lending Program- In the time of social distancing, we are more dependent than ever on the internet to stay connected. Recognizing that technology needs might present a barrier to some of our families, Peaslee established a device lending library so everyone could continue to engage in our virtual programs and school. Laptops were available to be checked out by people who needed them, and earbuds were distributed to tune in without disrupting other in their homes. Community Food Program- Peaslee's effort to support our neighbors is central to the work of the Community Food Program. In partnership with the Cincinnati Interfaith Workers Center and the Freestore Foodbank, in 2020, Peaslee distributed nearly 2,500 boxes of groceries to families experiencing hardship as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. We have strengthened our bond with several local schools- Rothenberg Preparatory Academy, St. Francis Seraph School, and Roberts Academy- who welcomed us to distribute groceries with support of their staff. We also supported Seven Hills Neighborhood Housing food pantry and Price Hill Recreation Center, whose staff distributed groceries to residents monthly. In April 2020, our commitment to observing safety protocols in food distribution was highlighted in a news story by WCPO. The Community Food Program is an inspiring example of community support in action!GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$39.4K
