Hatch Shell Summer Concert Series
Our free summer concerts at the Hatch Shell celebrate Boston's many diverse communities through music. From 2017-2022, 57% of the pieces we performed were written by women or composers of color. We perform many works from different cultures across the world and in styles outside of the Western classical tradition. Audience members connect cross-culturally when they hear music from diverse voices. Almost every concert features community partners and organizations that serve young people, low-income people, and people of color. Our concerts are fun and family-friendly, and we create a welcoming environment for all.Geographies47 David G Mugar Way, Boston, MA 02108, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedOrchestral musicAdults,Children and youth,Families,Low-income people,People of Latin American descent,People of African descent,People of Asian descent,People of European descent,Multiracial people,LGBTQ people,Women and girls,Men and boys,People with disabilities20K–Breaking Down Barriers
We developed our Breaking Down Barriers initiative in 2011, which creates access to our concerts for people with disabilities. We offer text-to-speech versions of our digital programs, mobility assistance if requested, and ASL interpreters. Interpreters not only directly translate spoken remarks, but they also communicate the feel and character of the music as the orchestra performs.Geographies47 David G Mugar Way, Boston, MA 02108, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedOrchestral musicPeople with disabilities––Music & Memory
Our Music & Memory program serves older adults with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of memory loss. Research proves that classical music can soothe and comfort those with Alzheimer's. A string quartet of Landmarks musicians travels to assisted living facilities across the greater Boston area to perform familiar and relaxing pieces. This program has been a rousing success since its implementation in 2021, with many facility staff members noting how calm and engaged residents were during and after the performance.GeographiesBoston Metropolitan Area, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedAlzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia,Musical ensembles and groupsOlder adults,Seniors,People with disabilities,People with diseases and illnesses600–
