Transition Support Services
There are over 750 orphanages in Haiti, yet 80% of the children living in them have a parent or relative living nearby who could care for them if they had the right support. Child Hope’s Transition Support Services (TSS) program works with orphanages in Haiti to help them transition from institutional care to family-based care. Many orphanages are interested in making this transition, but are facing challenges and finding that change is not easy to implement. Child Hope is a case study of a successful transition from institutional care to family-based care in Haiti. We are eager to share our knowledge and resources with other orphanages that, like us, believe the best place for a child to grow up is in a family. We provide coaching, mentoring, and technical know-how to accelerate the reunification processes taking place within these orphanages. Our TSS staff also host national workshops for orphanage staff & social workers. The attendees often work with close to 50 children, meaning our workshops have the potential to impact thousands of children each year!GeographiesHaitiDatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedSocial work education,Parent educationFamilies137$27KFamily Hope
Children raised in a loving, supportive family have better outcomes than those raised in orphanages. Yet many families, out of desperation, believe an orphanage is their only option. Through our Family Hope program, we are empowering parents to care for their children and not resort to orphanages. Although Child Hope used to operate an orphanage, we have shifted our services to address issues like poverty and family separation which are at the root of the orphan crisis. In the Family Hope Program, families are strengthened by providing intentional support. Child Hope supports and strengthens families because we believe all children should be able to grow up in a loving family!GeographiesHaitiDatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedElementary education,Middle school education,Secondary education,Child care,Child development,Foster care,Parent educationChildren and youth,Caregivers,Families,Widows and widowers45$45KFuture Hope
It is estimated only 58% of children in Haiti are enrolled in primary school. That is because nearly all of the schools are private and charge tuition and other fees, which families living in poverty simply cannot afford. Our Future Hope Program provides vulnerable children and young adults with all the resources they need to attend school. This includes tuition, textbooks, uniforms, and in many cases transportation assistance. Through our Future Hope Program, we are equipping the next generation of Haitian leaders.GeographiesHaitiDatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedElementary education,Middle school education,Secondary education,Special needs education,Higher education,Vocational secondary educationAdolescents,Children,Preteens32$11K
