Program 1 [2020]
i PartIII ("Describe...3 largest program services, as measured by expenses, number of persons benefited, relevant info"). line 28a $63,862 Compensation, Payroll tax and Professional fees of our resident and visiting Capoeira Masters (this includes payroll to our one employee) and teachers AND said persons' travel and food to and from DC, NYC, and California. This is to teach and exchange experience with other Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian teachers which is required for growth and graduation. This was greatly decreased in 2020 due to us closing in-person classes as of March 8 due to the pandemic. Thankfully we we were able to continue payroll for our one employee (the resident Master) due to the Paycheck Protection Program. Much of our revenue that is usually included for program service almost ground to a complete halt in 2020 and that included graduation ceremonies, performances, workshops with visiting teachers. 29a. Occupancy and Information technology $47,267. Rent , property tax, utilities, supplies, equipment, office expense, insurance, on-line subscriptions and software and maintenance of our training academy used to be our largest expense. This used to benefit about 140 people. However in 2020 we closed the doors on March 8 for the remainder of the year. We converted to having classes virtually and also in the park - weather permitting. However we did lose about half of our membership base. One of the greatest achievements of 2020 was simply keeping the academy building on lease to our organization, and keeping half of the membership .. waiting for safer days to return. This was due to the flexibility and ingenuity of our teaching and student base for continuing our training without being inside the physical building and various grants and landlord leniency as we tried to ensure the continued viability of the organization. Line 30 $2,857 Conference, convention, and meetings plus uniforms and costumes constitute our 3rd next largest expense. We had one event in Feb 2020 in which we had a visiting teacher with our students and teachers, plus visiting students and the general public were invited. Traditionally this is to compete and spar with others, plus showcase Capoeira, Afro-Brazilian dance and music. OUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT IS TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO OUR GROWING BODY OF MEMBERS AND STUDENTS. WE INCREASED OUR TOTAL NUMBER OF REPEAT STUDENTS FROM 206 IN 2022 TO 395 IN 23 TO 438 IN 2024. THERE WERE 258 NEW CLIENTS WITH A 46% RETENTION RATE, AND AN ASTOUNDING 84% RETENTION RATE OF REPEAT CLIENTS. WE HAVE CONTINUED THE TEEN-TEACHERS-IN-TRAINING TO DEVELOP THEIR LEADERSHIP. WE PROVIDED PAID INTERNSHIPS FOR 3 OF THEM THROUGH DCS SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM. WE ADDED MORE CAPOEIRA CLASSES, QUARTERLY FREE COMMUNITY ACTIVITY-DAYS FOR THE PUBLIC, GUEST-TEACHER WORKSHOPS, AND RAN A CAPOEIRA SUMMER CAMP.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$308.9K
