2023 LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: ON JULY 24-26, THE 2023 AWBC ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE WAS HELD AT THE HYATT REGENCY WASHINGTON ON CAPITOL HILL IN WASHINGTON, DC. THE EVENT HOSTED A RECORD-BREAKING TOTAL OF 314 ATTENDEES REGISTERED - A NOTABLE INCREASE IN ATTENDEES FROM 2022. 91 PERCENT OF AWBC MEMBERS WERE PRESENT, REPRESENTING 132 TOTAL WBCS FROM A DIVERSE ARRAY OF GEOGRAPHIC AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS.THIS YEAR, THE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE CELEBRATED THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN'S BUSINESS CENTERS, AND THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WBC PROGRAM AT SBA. THIS YEAR FOCUSED ON "WOMEN MOVING FORWARD, AND STARTED WITH A HISTORY PANEL FROM SOME OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF AWBC. A COMPREHENSIVE CURRICULUM WAS EXECUTED THROUGH 25 MAINSTAGE SESSIONS, 22 BREAKOUTS, AND COMPLEMENTED WITH SEVERAL NETWORKING SESSIONS. THE CURRICULUM WAS CENTERED AROUND THE OVERALL CONFERENCE THEME OF MOVING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS FORWARD. ALL SESSIONS WERE AIMED AT EMPOWERING WBC LEADERSHIP TO SOURCE DIVERSE CAPITAL MECHANISMS, AND COLLECTIVELY CREATE SUSTAINABLE FOUNDATIONS TO PREPARE FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS. THE SPEAKER LINE-UP WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF WBCS REQUESTING MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN FROM THEIR PEERS - WHICH WAS MET WITH A STRONG FLOW OF POSITIVE FEEDBACK, AS SPEAKERS PRIMARILY CONSISTED OF WBC DIRECTORS, STAFF MEMBERS, THE SBA, AND PARTNERS. INCUMBENT WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM: PROGRAM PROVIDES PEOPLE 50 AND OLDER AN OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE WAGES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND MARKETABLE SKILLS TO SECURE JOB SECURITY. EMPLOYERS BENEFIT FROM REDUCED TRAINING COSTS, INCREASED EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY AND HIGHER RETENTION RATES. PROVIDED UPSKILLING TRAINING FUNDS TO BUSINESSES EMPLOYEES AGE 50 AND OLDER, EARNING UP TO $16.00 AN HOUR WITH UP TO $2,000.00 IN TRAINING COSTS MAXIMUM PER FULLTIME EMPLOYEE WITH A COMMITMENT OF $2.00 PER HOUR WAGE INCREASE BY EMPLOYERS AFTER THE TRAINING IS COMPLETE.
