See SERVICES page for a description of this program service. Hate Free Zones - Builds neighborhood based community defense systems and community safety mechanisms for all people. Global Justice Program - Builds coalitions internationally for peace and migrant rights.2020 Accomplishments:Provided services to over 5000 community members and their families through various immigrant, housing, health, food, and relief fund resources.Engaged over 20,000 community members and mobilized over 200 DRUM members for the Excluded Workers Fund and Housing Justice.Implemented remote and virtual organizing strategies in response to the COVID Pandemic allowing us to continue to engage and expand our engagement to over 800 members in multiple languages through our monthly in language membership meetings. Published a report on Building Power & Safety Through Solidarity highlighting the accomplishments and stories of our membership and lessons learned organizing our community during the COVID-19 Pandemic.Graduated 28 new youth members from our 20th annual Summer 6-week Youth Organizing Institute which was held virtually for the first time.Engaged over 200 DRUM members on issues of racial justice winning the passage of the SAFER NY Act provisions.Launched the Building Power & Safety Through Solidarity (PaSS) Campaign as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic to keep our communities informed, connected, and engaged on issues that resulted from the pandemic. We were able to:Make over 15,000 calls to members and community members to provide safety info, resources and engage in ongoing issue-based grassroots advocacy campaigns.Identify over 2000 potential members who want to join DRUM and over 400 have been oriented and recruited into our membership base. Train over 70 DRUM members and leaders to lead the Building Power & Safety Through Solidarity Campaign in their neighborhoods.Secure over 12,000 Census completions from our base constituencies across NYC though phone banking, socially distanced community tabling, and distribution of materials through food and PPE distribution events.Distribute over $400,000 in relief funds to workers and families excluded from the federal stimulus and in need of support.Distribute over 16,000 personal Protective Equipment (Masks, Hand Sanitizers and Gloves)Distribute over 600 grocery packages and 1,100 cooked meals to community members or families who are food insecure or in quarantine.Held a Gender Justice retreat with over 40 DRUM leaders and members to evaluate and plan our Gender Justice work.Conducted a Rapid Response Network Training for 25 participants in the Hate Free Zones Coalition in order to respond to ongoing issues in our communities. Won the overhaul of punitive NYC Public School discipline policies and the implementation of citywide restorative justice, funding for 85 new social workers, a capping of suspensions to 20 days, and ending arrests and summonses for low-level infractions in NYC public Schools. Won the Greenlight Campaign which extended drivers licenses to all New Yorkers including undocumented immigrants. Won a Class Action Lawsuit resulting in the city having to compensate up to 300 street vendors a total of $188,000 for confiscating and destroying their food carts. Won the fight to prevent Amazon HQ2 from being built in Western Queens which would have displaced thousands of community members. Racial & Immigrant Justice Program - Educates, builds leadership, and assists immigrant families to access civil and immigrant rights, and runs legal clinics. Building Power & Safety Through Solidarity Program Educates our community about the changing conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, provide resources such as food and direct relief for those in need, build community support networks to keep our families and communities safe and connected, and build leadership of members on issues such as housing and workers excluded from federal and relief funds.
