  • Youth Wrestling Development Programs

    Williamsburg Wrestling Club (WWC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted to developing young athletes interested in the sport of wrestling. The organization is a USA Wrestling Chartered Club that offers co-ed programs from Kindergarten through High School. The team competes in local and regional competitions throughout Virginia. Many athletes also compete in tournaments outside of Virginia and coaches travel out of state for those athletes who qualify for national level tournaments on a select basis. In all, 152 youth wrestlers participated in at least one season of training in 2023. In addition, the club hosts two tournaments annually, in which local and regional wrestlers are invited to participate alongside the WWC team. The Winter 2023 tournament had 378 registered wrestlers and Fall 2023 saw 218 wrestlers on the mat. WWC offered three seasonal programs and hosted two wrestling tournaments in 2023. Winter 2022-2023/ Winter 2023-2024 The Winter Program runs from November through March and has programming for kindergarten through 8th graders. The program includes opportunities to compete at local tournaments. The program is for beginner as well as advanced wrestlers. 76 wrestlers participated in the Winter 2022-2023 season and 94 wrestlers participated in the Winter 2023-2024 season. Spring 2023 The Spring Program runs from March through May and has programming for Kindergarten through High School athletes. Events include opportunities to compete at local, regional and national level tournaments. Techniques taught are more advanced and practices are more demanding both physically and mentally. 75 wrestlers participated in the Spring 2023 Season. Fall 2023 Programing runs from late August through late October for kindergarten through high school. The Fall program includes opportunities to compete at local tournaments. It is also a good program for beginning wrestlers as practices will emphasize the fundamentals of wrestling, drilling basic techniques and live wrestling. 78 wrestlers participated in the Fall 2023 Season. Major Accomplishments 2022-2023 VAWA Folkstsyle State Championships WWC placed 6th out of 188 teams overall and was awarded 8U Division Team Champions and 10U Division Team 3rd place. WWC produced two State Champions, two State Runner Ups, five 3rd Place finishers, four 4th place finishers, three 5th place finishers, and four 6th place finishers. 2023 VAWA Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships WWC produced one Greco-Roman style 3rd place finisher, two Freestyle 2nd place finishers, and two 3rd place Freestyle finishers.
