NAUTILUS MUSIC THEATER
Programs
The Productions Program
PRODUCTIONS: Opportunities (sporadically) for artists to present fully-staged productions of music-theater works, including premieres of new work we have developed and supported, or innovative productions of existing operas and musicals. In FY22 we were able to present two fully-staged productions: STATIONS OF THE HEART and MOONLIT WALK HOME, presented under COVID restrictions. Both productions had been planned earlier but postponed due to the pandemic.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesSep 1, 2021 – Aug 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$167.7KArtist Development Program
ARTIST DEVELOPMENT: Ongoing training and development of music-theater artists including writers, composers, performers and directors. These programs usually include our 3-week long Wesley Balk Institute, two offerings of our Composer-Librettist Studio, and other classes and workshops. Because of the pandemic in FY20, the Balk Institute and Composer-Librettist Studios were cancelled. We took advantage of the lull to continue work on our Genome Project, archiving scores, programs, and other documents of past projects. In FY21, the Balk Institute was converted to a hybrid online/in-person format. In FY22, the Institute returned to in-person sessions, but the Composer-Librettist Studio, needing more lead time, was delayed until FY23GeographiesNot indicatedDatesSep 1, 2021 – Aug 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$27.6KCommunity Commissions Projects
COMMUNITY COMMISSIONS: Projects initiated by or commissioned for specific communities, such as arts organizations, academic institutions, or human service organizations. Projects for FY22 included in-person master classes with Yale University, Boston Conservatory, and Hunter College; workshop projects with Fortune's Fool Theater, Feed the Ducks, writer Mia Chung, the New Opera Film Project, and Opera America; and other short-term consultancies.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesSep 1, 2021 – Aug 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$4.5K
