Neighborhood Food Shelf Program
The neighborhood food shelf is the core program of Groveland Emergency Food Shelf, Inc. The shelf has operated since the early 1970's, was incorporated in 1998, affirmed as a non-profit in 2003. On average, approximately 4,500 individuals a month were served throughout the year. Approximately 35 lbs of food were distributed to each client. Groveland Emergency Food Shelf, Inc. operates, in collaboration with Minneapolis Community & Technical College (aka Minneapolis College), a satellite food shelf on the MCTC campus. Close to 228 individuals benefited from the Minneapolis College Food Pantry each week. Groveland began a new collaboration in 2020 with Liberty Community Church in N. Minneapolis. This collaboration takes several forms. 1) Grants were made to the church's emergency fund designated for food relief, 2) Fresh produce, meats and other perishables were provided for meals to students of the church's 21st Century Academy, an after-school program.
