  • Health and Equity Improvement Initiatives

    Communities Creating Opportunity's work focuses on building the capacity of directly impacted people to change racialized systems and structures. Our engagement here is primarily about disrupting and transforming the systemic barriers most responsible for perpetuating the disparities (e.g., racial equity, civic participation, healthcare access, and economic equity) that limit their ability to live full and healthy lives. Focused programs for 2023 included efforts to improve human health in low life expectancy zip codes in Kansas City, MO neighborhoods: (1) improve Covid -19 vaccination and influenza rates in our zip codes for Senior and adults with disabilities to include awareness and education about the vaccines, incentives, making appointments and providing transportation to clinics, pharmacies, etc. (2) Educate on the topic of healthy eating and continue to fight food insecurity. And, 3) Continue to provide monthly support to local food banks with volunteers and promotions.
