Sustainable Agriculture Support for Indigenous Families
The organization reached 250 Indigenous Maya-Achi farming families (approximately 1,250 men, women, and children) with critical sustainable agriculture related activities. This included building 21 greenhouses, distributing 25,000 pounds of organic fertilizer, vaccinating 400 cows and horses against disease, vaccinating 8,900 chicken and other poultry against disease, delivering 1,750 pounds of corn and bean seeds to recuperate the milpa system, planting 7,500 forest trees, planting 1,380 fruit trees, delivering vegetable seeds to each of 250 families to start their own vegetable gardens, and carrying out continuous technical assistance visits to each of 250 families throughout the year, typically once every two months. The organization also carried out 6 workshops for up to 250 farmer beneficiaries on soil and water conservation.
