Comprehensive After-School Programs
Hope In South Africa Inc's (HISA's) primary program service accomplishments are achieved through its Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and HIV/AIDs education, as well as providing leadership training, recreational and nutritional services at the Richmond Community Center (RCC). These accomplishments are in large part attributable to the partnerships that have been developed with local governments, non-profit organizations, schools, churches, Rotary clubs, and dedicated citizens. In 2022, staff were trained in software programs to better assist customers in the ELearning Center that was opened in December 2021. To protect this investiment in learning, HISA supported the installation of high-quality clear view fencing and pedestrian gates to provide more secure protection of the center facilities. In addition to the fencing, a major renovation of the kitchen space was completed to include expansion into a larger space that has improved natural light and ventilation. The kitchen now has expanded storage space for donations, new cleaning equipment and supplies, new appliances, three compartment sinks upgraded for better hygeniene and sanitation, and new utensils and plateware. Shade cloth was installed outside the kitchen to provide protection for the children as they wait to receive their meals. In the new kitchen, staff continued to prepare healthy meals for the youth from Monday to Friday as part of the comprehensive after-school programs offering sports, education, and fellowship. Meals were also provided regularly to the squatter camps where extremely poor residents gather in corrugated metal shacks and live in sub-par housing conditions. Lastly, HISA supported the center in revamping the two bathrooms on site as well as installing a bore hole to offset lack of water when load shedding occurs. Two trips by HISA supporters and Rotarians will occur in 2023 to continue dialogue on future growth and sustainability efforts for the programs and the center's outreach in the Karoo region.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$71.5KSupport for Karoo Region Projects
