Program 1 [2020]
2020 Form 990 Program AccomplishmentsWhat a year 2020 was. There aren't words to express all that each of us walked through, but one thing that wells up in our hearts is gratitude. Gratitude for each of our donors, for your genuine care and thoughtfulness, for their commitment to seeing leaders empowered and critical needs met in ways that saved lives, furthered sustainability, and brought hope and health through clean water access. It really isn't anything short of a miracle that while everything was turning upside down all around us, in the middle of a global pandemic, our donors responded with radical generosity so those in real need would still receive the life-giving support desperately required to keep on going. When COVID-19 began to spread across the globe we couldn't even begin to imagine the many ways we would be stretched and have to pivot. As stay at home orders and lockdowns went into effect here in the US and in Kenya, and with no certainty as to how long things would continue, we took steps to conserve funds. We buckled down and some of our staff chose to go without a salary for a few months so we would be able to cover ongoing emergency needs for our partners, our other staff salary and necessary operating expenses.GeneralWe raised over $709,000 in total in 2020.We raised over $94,000 in sales from our products, supporting our programs. We have reduced our overhead to allow 90% Programs, 7% Administration, 3% Fundraising.Despite COVID-19 restrictions, we took two trips to Kenya to work with our partners and distribute water filters.Sustainability ProgramsBuilding ProjectsThe Valley Light building project broke ground, the foundation poured and the walls were started.14 plots of land purchased at Lenkai School - ensuring they have land for long term food securitySolar Lights - LED solar lights for added security at Hope Beyond and Lenkai SchoolOutdoor Kitchen/Firewood Stoves installed for increased food preparation during lockdown Storage building built for food/crop storage adjacent to the outdoor kitchenBorehole Security Wall built - secured investment of deep water well and generatorSecurity CC TV Cameras installed- improved safety within compound at Hope BeyondBuilt 2 additional metal-sided classrooms - to comply with COVID-19 guidelinesTiled floors of 2 classrooms and Kitchen - improve sanitation and cleanlinessProvided 100 Desks and Chairs - comply with COVID-19 social distancing guidelinesInstalled an additional kitchen stove - increased food preparation for students at Lenkai SchoolIncome Generating ProjectsGoat Project - goat shed, purchase 5 goats, vet expenses at Hope Beyond. This vital process allows us to analyze the water filter data to monitor our success rates carefully and make any adjustments in the areas in which we serve. We are currently collecting the data using a paper-based system and entering it into spreadsheets. Then it is uploaded and shared in a cloud-based system that is accessible anywhere in the world.
