    ADVANCEMENT OF DEEP SUBMERGENCE VEHICLES, EQUIPMENT AND TELEPRESENCE SYSTEMS INCLUDING THE DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT OF SAMPLING CAPABILITIES FOR GOVERNMENT OWNED UNDERWATER ROBOTS; CONDUCT MAJOR OCEAN EXPLORATION EXPEDITIONS; TRAINED FILM MAKERS AND ENGINEERS. GFOE faced several challenges to our mission in 2020 due to covid restrictions on travel and in-office working. NOAA cancelled all sea-going operations as of April 1, 2020. These projects did not resume until April 7, 2021. While we were not able to perform our at-sea operations, GFOE was able to sustain maintenance and repair work on the remotely operated vehicles and associated equipment after significant alterations were made to the physical layout of the workshop, limiting the number of personnel in the building at a given time, and operating two shifts.

  • Ocean Exploration and Technology

    ADVANCEMENT OF DEEP SUBMERGENCE VEHICLES, EQUIPMENT AND TELEPRESENCE SYSTEMS INCLUDING THE DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT OF SAMPLING CAPABILITIES FOR GOVERNMENT OWNED UNDERWATER ROBOTS; CONDUCT MAJOR OCEAN EXPLORATION EXPEDITIONS; TRAINED FILM MAKERS AND ENGINEERS. We conducted 4 ROV cruises and 6 mapping cruises in the Pacific Ocean between California and Alaska during 2023. We performed routine equipment maintenance in the winter of 2023 in anticipation of 2024 operations.
