Programs
Program 1 [2020]
The Creamer's Field Migration Station (CFMS) is a long-term avian migration monitoring program that was established in 1992 on Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, Fairbanks, Alaska. The spring season was canceled amidst the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fall season consisted of operating 6m and 12m 30mm mist nets weekdays from July 31-September 25 (n = 24 net arrays), weather permitting. A total of 1,622 birds of 35 species were captured; 1,425 of 31 species were banded. Although the COVID-19 pandemic required that we close our operations to the public in 2020, we expanded our virtual outreach capacity through: 1) the creation of a virtual field trip, 2) a daily station blog, and 3) social media outreach to Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Over 14,000 views or direct engagements occurred across these platforms. We also offered two internships, one apprenticeship, and two volunteers opportunities. A total of 894 volunteer hours were accrued during the fall season through these positions. Through our participation in the Alaska Swallow Monitoring Network we monitored 83 active nests in Fairbanks, banded 415 Tree Swallows, trained, and offered two student internships and two volunteer opportunities. Together they contributed at at least 375 hours to the project. At least 5,301 people interacted with social media outreach about the project.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$54.1KProgram 2 [2020]

The Creamer's Field Migration Station (CFMS) is a long-term avian migration monitoring program that was established in 1992 on Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, Fairbanks, Alaska. The spring season operated 17 net arrays five days/week May 1 - June 2. The fall season operated 27 net arrays 5-7 days/week July 27 - September 25. 2,316 birds of 33 species were captured. Banding efforts were supported by 41 volunteers (2,224 hours). We offered 83 education programs including K-12 field trips and guided walks for 2,051 individuals, and hosted at least 370 additional visitors. Through the Alaska Swallow Monitoring Network we monitored 64 active nests in Fairbanks and banded 447 Tree Swallows. We trained 30 youth and teens who volunteered 1,069 volunteer hours. Tens of thousands more people were reached through social media and digital outreach, and many thousands more Alaskans and visitors were reached via informal presentations in the field, signage on trails, and an interpretive display in the Creamer's Refuge Visitor Center.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$108.6K
