Youth Academic and Social Development Program
21 children completed the school year and achieved a measurable improvement in attentiveness, academic studies, language and social skills, and nutrition. The program included all school days. The services were provided without cost or charge to the children and their families. All costs were paid entirely with donor contributions and grants, and an annual fundraising event. Specific accomplishments: Behavior: Improve Social-Emotional Learnings; 100% of students made measurable, meaningful progress; average DESSA 2 scores increased by nearly 19 points; all students moved out of the "needs help" category; 11 students (52%) reached typical competency for their age; 10 students (48%) entered the "strength" category demonstrating exceptional SEL skills. Education: Strengthen Academic Achievement: 95% of students improved their math scores from fall to spring; 86% of students improved in ELA. Food Insecurity: Provide Healthy Meals; each student received 152 meals and snacks during the year; volunteers donated 456 meals, each serving at least 10 children; estimated total value of food donated is $40,000+. Thrive: Foster Skills for Success in Life: 100% of students demonstrated growth in all five target skills; 48% of students ended the year in the "strength" category, showing advanced development in life skills; staff reported increased ability among students to express emotions, resolve conflict, and collaborate effectively; students who began the year shy or reactive were leading peer discussions and mentoring younger students by spring.
