HEALING JUSTICE PROJECT
Programs
Program 1 [2020]
Healing Justice (HJ) addresses the individual and community harm caused by wrongful convictions. We offer restorative programs to help people heal and conduct widespread education to improve our justice system's response in these cases. Due to the pandemic, HJ had to pause in-person program services relating to both our healing and our justice work. Instead, HJ hosted a variety of virtual program services by video. These included weekly healing groups; monthly restorative justice groups; a multi-week intensive peer support group; and a multi-day healing retreat. All of these involved creating safe spaces for people to share and bond, and utilizing trauma-recovery tools to enable individual and community recovery. Our virtual program services also included numerous educational and training events for justice officials and victim service providers around the country, with the goal of improving the support provided to crime victims and survivors in cases involving wrongful convictions and post-conviction exonerations.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$329.6KProgram 2 [2020]
With a funding grant from the US Department of Justice's Office for Victims of Crime, we created a unique and comprehensive set of resources for improving support and services for crime victims and survivors in cases involving wrongful convictions. These resources included: practical professional tools for justice officials and service providers; peer-to-peer support videos for crime victims and survivors; and educational materials for the media and general public. These unique resources were the tangible products that resulted from this two-year grant and are hosted on a new public website created with the grant funding: www.survivorservices.org.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$71.7KHealing Justice Programs
Healing Justice (HJP) addresses the individual and community harm caused by wrongful convictions. We offer restorative programs to help people heal (our healing programs) and conduct widespread education to improve our justice system's response in these cases (our justice programs). In our healing programs, we offer both individual and group opportunities for peer-to-peer support and restorative justice. In our justice programs, we provide specialized training and technical assistance to justice practitioners and agencies in states around the country. In all of our work, we uplift the voices of people who have been directly impacted by injustice, and we utilize trauma-recovery tools to enable individual and community recovery.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$390.8K
