Groundwater Protection Initiatives
TESPA, in coordination with its community partners, has focused on issues related to groundwater: in particular, Jacob?s Well and Far South Mining. TESPA AND JACOB?S WELL: TESPA has taken action at the state-level to ensure the long-term health of Jacob?s Well?a natural spring at the heart of the community and economic engine. Due to neglected water infrastructure, local water-supplier Aqua Texas had an adverse impact on the spring?s flow. TESPA worked with neighbors to file a complaint at the Public Utility Commission to evidence years of reckless practices by Aqua. In addition, TESPA is paving the way for a responsible utility with a reliable water supply that will stop damaging precious Hill County groundwater resources. TESPA is once again collaborating with other organizations on these actions to focus public attention and find solutions to protect our water. TESPA AND FAR SOUTH MINING ON THE NEEDMORE RANCH: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's Edwards Aquifer Protection Plan (TCEQ-EAPP) has issued a permit for Needmore's Water Pollution Abatement Plan. In response, TESPA filed a Motion to Overturn this permit. TESPA awaits a response from TCEQ and continues to monitor regulatory actions to determine next steps.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$89.6K
