Annual Prayer Breakfast
The decline in incidences of COVID and our communitys concern about the risk of such infection enabled the foundation to successfully host its first face-to-face major fundraiser and promotional event since 2020, our 8th Annual Prayer Breakfast. The financial and promotional success of the event was enhanced by the appeal of its keynote speaker, Aruna Miller, the first woman of color, recently elected Lieutenant Governor of the State of Maryland. Financial and promotional success was further enhanced by securing greater corporate sponsorship and financial support; leveraging our increased knowledge and experience using social media; and giving non-attending, potential donors access to the event by simultaneously broadcasting it. Tickets for in-person attendance completely sold out. Total revenue achieved by the annual event was $57,044.Our decision to hire an Executive Director at the start of the year furthered the financial success that was accomplished; the new, unusual Fall fundraiser, that he initiated, termed Too Fit to Quit, generated the second largest amount of fundraising revenue realized: $22,968. The resultant furtherance of our financial resources enabled us to again increase financial support of the Gateway Boarding Academy to offset the rise in rental cost and to also diminish the cost effects of necessary equipment and professional cleaning and disinfecting procedures to mitigate residual risk of COVID.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$184.9KProgram 1 [2024]
Our decision to hire an Executive Director one year ago was once again proven to be effective in moving the intent and purpose of the organization forward. Initially, the organization website was updated to attract a broader age group and provide greater ease in moving throughout the site, consistent with todays media capability, while further illustrating the impact of financial support for the organization, thereby providing an encouragement and an avenue for increased funding to the GateWay Boarding Academy the purpose for which the Foundation exists. Leveraging the increased knowledge and experience using social media, financial and promotional success was further enhanced by securing greater corporate sponsorship for our major fundraiser, the 9th Annual Prayer Breakfast, which resulted in a total revenue achievement in excess of $47K. The Board was also pleased to raise separate funds through the Young Mens Clothing Drive, enabling the GBA Youth to attend and host the Prayer Breakfast attendees in appropriate attire.Additionally, the Fall fundraiser Too Fit to Quit, generated an increased amount over 2023 with revenue realized of: $31,977. The bedrock resource of support, the Sustaining Parents, were again able to support GateWay Second Chance with over $57,000.00 during 2024 which helped to enable the Foundation to increase financial support for the Gateway Boarding Academy in order to offset the rise in their operational costs due to the hiring of additional staff. Lastly, this year, the Foundation will provide GateWay Boarding Academy with a 2004 van donated to the Foundation, to provide transportation for their ASSIST program, without charge.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$159.6K
