Program 1 [2021]
The IRA was part of a collaborative effort that recently extended legislation allowing SSPs to operate in Indiana. We also played a large role in developing Indiana's ZiP HIV/HCV Elimination plan, particularly around the involvement of PWLE and increased access to Harm Reduction state-wide. Just this year, the Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) reform we supported was passed that allows for increased take-home doses. On a state level, we hope for a statewide, coordinated, informed community of people who use drugs that advocate and educate about policies and legislation that impacts them. To this goal, we have started a statewide Harm Reduction coalition to collaborate with harm reductionists all over the state. This coalition will be PWUD led and will include activists, providers, and other stakeholders in fields intersecting with harm reduction and Drug user health. We continue to advocate for positive change for PWUD, PLWHIV, PLWHCV, and the unhoused community. We are most excited about our aid in Austin City opening an SSP after the Scott County Commissioners voted for the current SSP's closing in January 2022.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesFeb 1, 2020 – Jan 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$386.9KAdvocacy for People Who Use Drugs
The IRA is an organization led and staffed by PWLE that shifts resources and power to people who use drugs. We aim to reduce both the individual and structural harms caused by racialized drug policy through direct action such as our SSP and resource sharing and advocacy such as our Legislative efforts at the state level, and our MOUD and HCV advocacy efforts. Our ultimate goal is the full restoration of human and civil rights for people who use drugs. In the meantime, we offer moments of respite, love, and respect in a world otherwise dominated by state-sanctioned violence, neglect, and abuse of people who use drugs.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesFeb 1, 2022 – Jan 31, 2023Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$424.4K
