Free Mammography Outreach Program
The Free Mammography Outreach Program targets two populations of identified need, the Hispanic and African American women who are low income and underinsured. As administrator, Reach Out for Life distributes vouchers to free clinics and medical centers that act as the medical home bases for the underserved population. Those partners qualify Program participants as below the 200% Federal Poverty Level and underinsured. They set appointments with participating imaging center partners which provide procedures at discounted rates. The Program does not discriminate for general health, age or citizenship, and the women served receive all recommended screening and diagnostic procedures at no cost. The program experienced a decline in this activity As a Federal Program began covering procedures not included before. The focus became identifying and assisting women who did not qualify for the Federal Program - Every Woman's Life. The Free Mammography Outreach Program has provided access to free breast imaging procedures for thousands of low income and under-insured women in the community. For more than a decade this Program has adapted to satisfy the needs of the target populations, particularly of those who cannot qualify for other programs. This has included undocumented women, men, and the UNDER-insured, rather than only the UNinsured. Reach Out for Life does not discriminate for any reason in providing access to procedures to reduce the mortality rate from breast cancer.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2023 – Jun 30, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$46.7KCommunity Awareness & Outreach Program
The Community Awareness & Outreach Program is important accessory program. The Reach Out Campaign builds public awareness in the community of the serious need for regular mammograms to ensure early detection of breast cancer. Free programs are ineffective without the structures that link those with need to the services that they are missing. The Reach Out Campaign identifies women in need of support and provides educational materials to build understanding of the need for early detection through regular mammograms within this vulnerable population. The greatest barrier to care is the fear that women have of what a mammogram might reveal. Often they feel that they cannot deal with one more problem in life. The Reach Out Campaign educates and directs the underserved population toward access to free breast imaging. By navigating each individual through her own breast health screenings, ROFL works to build a healthier community by reducing mortality rates from breast cancer in the Richmond, VA area Tri-Cities. Community Awareness initiatives target African Americans and Hispanic populations and these two groups account for most of the participants in the Free Mammography Program.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2023 – Jun 30, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$20.9K
